Advanced META Tags for vBulletin (plugin)

Posted on by in vBulletin SEO

I have recently launched an Advanced SEO Meta Tags plugin for vBulletin.  This relatively simple plugin allows vBulletin forum owners to use dynamic statistics in their header files (and indeed in many other places on their websites) that were not currently available to them.

Dynamic Data in our Meta Tags - a great success!

Why would this be of any relevance for SEO?

Well, I have had this MOD installed right here on since December last year.  When I first installed it Google used to spider the homepage once every couple of days, however – as soon as google’s spiders realised that there was dynamic information in the META Description tags, that were updated frequently, it started coming back much, much more regularly.

At the moment my homepage is being spidered at least 12-18 times a day, so the stats that you see in google for a search for our site is nearly live.

If you refer to the screenshot of this result for the search term “seo forum” you will see that both sites in #1 and #2 take advantage of this method.  We are currently in #2 but we have been around for about five years less than, and are already in second place so Im happy with that for the time being!

Apart from the obvious SEO benefit of having the spiders taking up near residence on your site, I also think it looks pretty cool!

SEO Auto Linker for vBulletin (autolink plugin)

Posted on by in vBulletin SEO

I have recently launched my own Auto Link plugin for vBulletin.  It works by dynamically adding links to words of your choice in any users posts, to the page of your choice.

Why would you want to do this?  Well there are three main reasons:

1) Affiliate Links

I used to use a similar plugin (the Geek Autolinker, or GAL for short, but it was vb3.x only, and doesnt seem to be in development, and it wasnt SEO friendly either) for affiliate links on a poker forum that I used to run.  Whenever anybody posted a word like “pokerstars” or “888″ or whatever other poker room name, the plugin would automatically change those words into affiliate links (my ones ofcourse!) that displayed to the forum users.

Then when people clicked through those links I got paid if they made a deposit.  On a good month the plugin was earning me upwards of $5,000, so its safe to say that I absolutely loved it.

I no longer have a poker forum (I sold it, and bought a house with the proceeds, mainly thanks to the vb autolink plugin!) but I wanted something similar again for this forum so I decided to build my own one from scratch.

No matter what niche your board covers, there is probably an affiliate programme that you could use to earn some extra revenue from using this plugin.

2) Internal Link Strength

Lets say you have 10 thousand posts in your forum, and your niche is lets say, “Fishing”…

well, you are going to have a heck of a lot of repetitions of certain words, maybe things like “bait” or “fishing rod”, you know the kind, fairly common words in your niche, and if you could rank #1 in google for that term, then you could make some serious money through either selling your own items, or advertising, or whatever.

Well, as this plugin is SEO friendly, (ie, the links it creates are CLEAN LINKS, not JavaScript ones) you can link every repetition of a word on your website to a CMS page, or a wordpress page, or even a specific post that already ranks half well for that search term.

The result of this is that google will beleive that your specific page is particularly important, and your rankings will increase for that term!

3) Selling Links (tread carefully!)

Now, before I start on this one, Im not in any way saying you should do this, Im just purely saying that you could do this, with this autolink plugin for vBulletin.

Lets say again that you have a forum relating to fishing, well you could sell those important words that we covered in point 2, to an existing ecommerce site that is focussed on your niche.  If they know what they are doing with SEO they would probably buy them off you, and in certain industries pay quite a bit of money for all that link strength.

Now let me point out, selling links IS AGAINST google’s guidelines, so tread carefully, but this could actually be a rather large revenue source ;)

Fuzzy SEO for vBulletin

Posted on by in vBulletin SEO

I have developed an advanced SEO plugin for vBulletin that increases the long tail traffic to any vBulletin based board automatically.

The concept is fairly straightforward:

Every website gets long tail search traffic, generally from search phrases that do not exist on page, for instance, if a webpage were about “blue widgets” you might appear in the search results for a search like “buy blue widgets in san francisco“. What this plugin does is in realtime detects the query string that people are clicking through to your website from any search engine, and includes it on the page in the style of a tag cloud, exactly as it was searched for.

daily organic search traffic to this website

The next time google spiders that specific webpage, it will see that there is an exact match for the keyphrase that is being searched for in google, and you will then increase your ranking for that term.

vBulletin is the perfect vehicle for this kind of optimisation, as any forum generates already a pretty high (dis-proportionately) percentage of long tail queries, thanks to the hugely diverse amount of content on the showthread pages.

This plugin therefore can do a great job of increasing the long tail search to your whole website, not just the main category pages like the forumhome or display forum, instead, this plugin magnifies the search traffic going to every page that its active on!

Using the Plugin:

After installation you can select how many keywords you want to display as a maximum on any page, and you can configure filters or “bad words” that you dont want to appear in the tag cloud of your site.

how the tag clouds look on the forum home page

The keywords appear in the tag cloud by default sorted by the most amount of traffic received first, and also have a higher <h> tag based on their popularity percentage, so keywords that drive high amounts of traffic will be an h1, while lesser keywords might be an h4, or just plain text.

The GOLD version of this plugin is available from our plugin store and comes with lifetime free updates and optional professional installation for your vBulletin board!
